Indian Cents
1877 1C MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. The certified population figures for this issue in high grade do not necessarily represent the availability of the issue on the market. The 1877 is a favorite key date among more collectors than just those who pursue the Indian cent series, and many high-end coins are held in private hands, off of the market. In Gem condition, the frequency of auction appearances is minimal, regardless of color designation. This Red and Brown example offers an ideal balance between color, quality, and affordability. Both sides display satiny luster with copper-orange and auburn hues, showing a distinctive ribbon of bright luster below STATES that serves as a pedigree marker. There are a few unobtrusive and grade-consistent flecks seen beneath a loupe, and a small, mint-made planchet defect is observed on Liberty's cheek. Population: 76 in 65 Red and Brown, 5 finer. CAC: 21 in 65, 0 finer (10/16).
