Proof Indian Cents
1877 1C PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. The 1877 proof cent mintage is controversial. Walter Breen (1989) estimates 510+ pieces, while the 2009 Guide Book gives a figure of 900 coins. Richard Snow (2006) suggests that "... at least 1,500 coins were produced, with the remaining unsold pieces being destroyed or released into circulation." In any event, Gem and finer coins in all color categories are challenging. This exquisitely struck Red and Brown PR65 displays noticeable field-motif contrast at certain angles. Whispers of purple and sky-blue patina visit nicely preserved surfaces. Population: 75 in 65 Red and Brown, 10 finer. CAC: 24 in 65, 4 finer (10/16).
