Proof Two Cent Pieces
1873 2C Closed 3 PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. A complete set of two-cent pieces must include a proof-only Closed 3 example -- and usually the Open 3 Restrike as well. This Gem Red and Brown Closed 3 example is sharply struck with modest mirroring of the fields. Umber-brown shades visit the high points, while the fields retain much of their original coppery-red sheen. A few dark flecks are scattered about the pleasing surfaces. PCGS lists just 31 numerically finer Red and Brown proofs (11/16).
