1885 5C MS64+ PCGS. Recognizable to specialists and the uninitiated alike as the key to the Liberty nickel series, the 1885 claims a low mintage of 1.4 million coins. Remarkably, the average certified example grades fractionally higher than VF25, placing this Choice Uncirculated representative in the top echelon of survivors. Each side is attractively toned in shades of peach-gold and ice-blue, though the reverse is noticeably lighter in hue. The stars are fully brought-up and the wreath elements boldly defined. One microscopic mark appears on Liberty's upper cheek.
