Liberty Nickels
1906 5C MS66 PCGS. The fact that more than 38 million nickels were struck in 1906 -- yet no Superb Gem examples are certified by either service -- is convincing evidence about how challenging it is to find a nice one. Premium Gems such as the present coin are very scarce as well, with fewer than 40 examples at both PCGS and NGC combined. This attractive, lightly toned MS66 coin displays smooth, nearly mark-free surfaces and strong mint luster. Slight weakness at the hair and wreath is unavoidable, yet the stars are sharp and the overall strike is above average. Population: 32 in 66 (6 in 66+), 0 finer (10/16).
