Buffalo Nickels
1938-D 5C MS68 NGC. The year 1938 saw the final production of Buffalo nickels, with the Denver Mint striking 7 million coins. Intentionally or otherwise, a number of pieces were saved in high grades up to this seeming impossible level. Chestnut-gold patina dominates the outer areas, blending with powder-blue and pale yellow coloration at the centers. The strike is nearly full, and a single tick occurs on the bison's head. Census: 22 in 68 (1 in 68+, 7 in 68★), 0 finer (11/16).
