Jefferson Nickels
1942-D 5C D Over Horizontal D, FS-501, MS63 Full Steps PCGS. The D Mintmark was initially rotated a quarter turn, with the upright of the letter facing the top of the reverse. The mistake was immediately recognized, and the D was entered on top of the first punch with its correct orientation. This is one of many die errors in virtually every series that are collectively known as "blundered dies." The strike is sharp with vibrant luster beneath chestnut-gold toning. The reverse displays a few tiny gray flecks. Population: 4 in 63 Full Steps, 11 finer (11/16).
