Proof Jefferson Nickels
1942-P 5C Type Two PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. Always in demand as the sole "wartime silver" proof issue, this Type Two Deep Cameo nickel joins just one other coin to earn such a designation -- regardless of grade -- at either service. Virtually all proof Type Two nickels are non-Cameo pieces. Cameos are rare, and Deep Cameo examples are heretofore unheard of. Stunning, deep-mirrored surfaces show only a few microscopic lines, while the smoothly frosted devices are free of any marks or distractions. The strike is uniformly sharp throughout both sides. We repeat...PCGS reports just two pieces in all Deep Cameo grades. To our knowledge, this is the only 1942 Type Two Deep Cameo nickel to appear in any auction. We certainly have never seen another (much less finer) example. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (11/16).
