Early Half Dimes
1794 H10C V-1, LM-1, R.6, XF45 PCGS. Lacking only the finest definition on Liberty's hair strands and on the eagle's breast feathers, this sharply struck LM-1 half dime is extremely Choice for the XF level. Light wear exists on the high points and a few hair-thin lines are seen beneath the bluish-gray and gold patina, yet this glossy example displays exceptional eye appeal for the grade. A glass reveals a few light adjustment marks between STATES and OF, but they are nearly entirely eliminated by the strong strike and subsequent circulation. The LM-1 variety is the scarcest of four 1794 varieties. Rated R.6 in the Logan and McCloskey reference, it is a prize for any early half dime collector or Flowing Hair specialist. Population (all 1794 varieties combined): 13 in 45, 87 finer (11/16).
