Seated Half Dimes
1866-S H10C MS65 PCGS. CAC. V-1. The 1866-S half dime is priced as a better-date type coin in circulated grades, but at the upper end of the Uncirculated range, the valuation rapidly escalates. Only a handful of examples exceed this coin, and even in the current grade, the present piece is legitimately rare. Rich toning blankets the obverse, showing navy and russet at the periphery leading toward lighter shades of green and gold at the center. The surfaces are smooth and lustrous, interrupted only by a couple of ticks in the right field. The silver-toned reverse exhibits blue-green and orange-burgundy hues at the rim, and the overall eye appeal of this CAC-approved example is strong. Population: 8 in 65, 5 finer. CAC: 2 in 65, 3 finer (11/16).
