Seated Dimes
1879 10C F-102a, R.4, MS68 PCGS. CAC. Weakness on the base of the rock above 879 and a die scratch through the left portion of the lower-left wreath leaves attribute Fortin-102a. A mintage of 14,000 coins makes the 1879 a semikey date in the series in any condition. This stunning MS68 coin, however, is in a league of its own. Each side remains completely brilliant, as it was the day it was struck. Frosty luster radiates over pristine surfaces devoid of all but the most microscopic of imperfections. Reflective fields contrast modestly against strongly struck motifs, including fully defined kernels. Only the upper left wheat stalks are soft. A trophy coin for the advanced Seated dime specialist. Population: 2 in 68, 0 finer. CAC: 2 in 68, 0 finer (11/16).
