Bust Quarters
1815 25C "L" Counterstamp, B-1, R.1 -- Damage -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. The "Damage" designation refers to the counterstamp in PCGS lexicon, which is one of the reasons for lack of a numeric grade. Approximately 80% of the quarters struck at the Mint in 1815 utilized silver from Planters Bank in New Orleans and that portion of the mintage was shipped there, a fact that some researchers believe relates to the enigmatic "E" and "L" counterstamps that appear on a small number of 1815 and 1825 quarters. The "L" countermark is scarcer on 1815-dated quarters. This example is lightly toned with About Uncirculated sharpness. The coin also shows evidence of a light cleaning.
