Bust Quarters
1815 25C "L" Counterstamp, B-1, R.1, AU53 NGC. The counterstamped "E" and "L" marks on 1815 quarters are all of the Browning-1 die variety. The same counterstamps on the 1825/4 quarters are found only on the Browning-2 die pair. The "E" countermark is more prevalent on the 1815 date, while the opposite is true on the 1825/4 quarters, where "L" is the more common letter applied. This briefly circulated example of the "L" on 1815 date is scarce. High point rub is the only sign of circulation, since there are no marks other than the mysterious "L" punched above the front of the cap.
