1825/4/(2) 25C B-2, R.2, AU58 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 1/1. Dusky umber-gray toning joins almond-gold and deep-blue accents across the smooth surfaces of this near-Mint quarter. Silver luster shines through wherever an opening in the rich patina allows. A thoroughly original and attractive example of the Browning-2 variety, sharply struck from perfect dies (or nearly so -- an extremely faint crack may exist from the rim to the right leg of the second A in AMERICA). The overdate is inscrutable as always, with the 5 over either a 2, 3, or 4, or a combination thereof.
