Bust Quarters
1825/4/(2) 25C "L" Counterstamp, B-2, R.2, MS61 NGC. Tompkins Die State 1/1. The underdigit beneath the 5 in the date is indistinct on the B-2 variety, but it does not look like a 4, prompting many to settle for the 1825/4/(2) descriptor. The counterstamped "L" above the left-front of the cap is much clearer and indisputable, but no less controversial among numismatic scholars. Much research has been done, but few answers provide any degree of certainty. The "L" countermark is more available on the 1825 quarters than the "E" variant, which is rarely seen, but together the 1825 quarters appear less-often with either counterstamp than the 1815 quarters. This is a glossy and attractively toned Mint State example with dappled iridescence and immense eye appeal.
