Bust Quarters
1831 25C Small Letters, B-1, R.3, MS64 PCGS Secure. Ex: Eliasberg. Tompkins Die State 1/5. Frosty-white cartwheel luster radiates from both sides of this near-Gem B-1 quarter. Faint traces of tan-gold toning do little to suppress the impressive brilliant-silver sheen. A few light abrasions in the left obverse field combine with minor incompleteness on the centers of stars 1 to 5 and Liberty's drapery folds. Otherwise, this Choice example displays eye appeal that exceeds its numeric grade. Tied with several other coins for fourth in the Rea-Koenings-Haroutunian Census for Browning-1. Population (all Small Letters varieties): 66 in 64 (3 in 64+), 22 finer (10/16).
Ex: Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection (Bowers and Merena, 4/1997), lot 1396.
