Seated Quarters
1860-S 25C Fine 12 NGC. Briggs 1-A. The 1860-S quarter did what it was always intended to do: circulate. Only one Uncirculated example has been certified in mint condition, the Jim Gray-Gene Gardner coin in MS61. All surviving examples from the 56,000-coin mintage are very scarce and highly collectible. This well-circulated Fine 12 quarter shows light steel-gray patina that deepens to olive hues within the peripheral recesses. LIBERTY and the shield are bold, and considerable feather detail remains. The R in QUAR is the only area that is noticeably soft. Census: 2 in 12, 14 finer (10/16).
