Seated Quarters
1860-S 25C XF40 PCGS. Briggs 1-A. Scarce both in an absolute sense and in the context of the Seated quarter series, the 1860-S saw only 56,000 pieces produced, which were soon distributed in the booming West Coast commerce. Most examples of the issue are well-worn or impaired in one way or another. This solid XF coin survives with pleasing light, olive-gray toning and sharp motifs. The dentils and rims are bold on both sides. A few faint, angled abrasions run through the obverse shield to the bottom edge, yet the surfaces are essentially problem-free for the grade. Very scarce this fine. Population: 8 in 40, 7 finer (11/16).
