Proof Seated Quarters
1857 25C PR65 PCGS. CAC. Briggs 7-G. The 1857 proof mintage is unrecorded, but undoubtedly small, since sales to the general public did not occur until 1858. Some were likely struck circa-1859, when Philadelphia "Midnight Mint" activity crested. PCGS estimates 75 to 100 1857 proofs are known. This sharply struck and unblemished Gem exhibits dappled forest-green, straw-gold, and lilac-red patina. Population: 4 in 65, 0 finer. CAC: 4 in 65, 0 finer (11/16).
