1878 25C PR66+ NGC. Briggs 4-D. Type Two Reverse. A faint die crack between stars 3 and 4, and a die lump at the left base of Liberty's staff identify the obverse. The reverse die, one of two employed for proofs in 1878, shows a prominent die lump between horizontal lines 3 and 4 on the shield. A high circulation-strike mintage of over 2.2 million coins makes the 800 proofs far more elusive in relative terms. Census: 9 in 66 (1 in 66+), 4 finer (11/16).
