Early Half Dollars
1795 50C 2 Leaves, Y Over Star, O-121, T-2, High R.4, XF40 PCGS. Remnants of a star are visible within the open spaces of the Y in LIBERTY, giving this variety its distinctive appeal. The CA in AMERICA is also noticeably recut. The present example is in the early die state without the heavy radial crack through the date. The strike is even and sharp, and the devices retain substantial detail. Softness on the eagle's breast was likely present before circulating. Clash marks appear in the central fields, and mint-made adjustment marks interrupt the border dentils along the right obverse periphery. Both sides have smooth surfaces and medium olive-gray coloration.
