Bust Half Dollars
1811 50C Small 8, O-109, R.2, MS62+ NGC. The surfaces of this interesting O-109 example are satiny and highly lustrous, with iridescent toning across both sides including shades of aquamarine, peach-gold, and russet-red. The variety is known for its sole use of a heavily cracked reverse die, with the crack running tangent to the first S in STATES where it creates a biplanar surface that bisects the scroll, before penetrating deep into the left (facing). Numerous other die cracks encircle the reverse margin and legends. The strike is nevertheless sharp on virtually all of the motifs.
