Bust Half Dollars
1812 50C Large 8, O-107', R.3(?), MS63 PCGS. CAC. Orange-gold and bluish-gray shades figure most prominently in the iridescent palette that colors this Select Uncirculated 1812 half. Readily identified by the "Jumping 1" in the date, where the first 1 is high, and a sharp tine penetrates the wing from the right shield corner. Well-struck from an early state of the dies showing only minor weakness at the cap, stars 7 and 8, and at the lowermost arrowhead and nearby talons -- now known as O-107', without the mound above the left (facing) wing seen on later die stage. This CAC-endorsed example ranks at the low end of the Condition Census for the early die state according to the Autumn, 2016 edition of the Steve Herrman listing (10/16).
