Bust Half Dollars
1812 50C Large 8, O-110, R.1, MS62 NGC. More than 1.6 million Bust halves were struck in 1812 from 10 die pairs, an average of more than 160,000 pieces per die marriage. This O-110 example shows evidence of die wear and erosion, and most of the stars are drawn to the edge. Other than these factors, the coin is sharp, pleasing, and original. Mint luster glows beneath golden-gray toning that intensifies at the margins. The date is widely spaced, with 81 close and with both the first 1 and 2 distant from their neighboring digits. Only a few small ticks are visible with a lens.
