Bust Half Dollars
1815/2 50C O-101a, R.3, VF30 PCGS. Natural golden-gray toning deepens at the borders of this middle-grade key date half. Only quarters and half dollars were struck in 1815 for the silver denominations, plus a brief mintage of half eagles. This pleasing example retains glimpses of luster in protected areas with speckles of blue toning adding to considerable eye appeal. A glass reveals a few lines and small marks, including a V-shaped abrasion beneath the ribbon ends near Liberty's hair curls. Struck from a late state of the dies, with the associated die clashing and die cracks that exemplify the O-101a variety.
