Bust Half Dollars
1823 50C O-109, High R.5, VF35 PCGS. The crude 3 for this Overton variety lacks a popular name, such as the Broken, Patched, and Ugly nicknames given to other Guide Book 1823 varieties. But the O-109 is rarer than any of the aforementioned varieties (rated High R.5), and it is further distinguished by a series of bold obverse die cracks, some quite spectacular. This partly lustrous Choice VF example displays autumn-gold and pearl-gray shadings over the smooth surfaces that show only a few light lines and small marks. Ranked near the Condition Census for this very scarce variety.
Ex: The Reginald Byron Mason Collection, ANA Signature (Heritage, 3/2007), lot 771.
