Bust Half Dollars
1825 50C O-115, R.3, MS65 PCGS. Struck from lightly clashed dies, a die state not mentioned in the Parsley reference. Liberty's profile shows strike doubling. As usual in later die stages, the large stars are flat and drawn to the edge -- a result of prolonged die usage during the mintage of 2.9 million pieces. Few examples survive as well-preserved as this coin, with gleaming bronze-gold patina and sharp central motifs. Population (all varieties included): 17 in 65 (2 in 65+), 8 finer (10/16).
