1830 50C Large 0, O-123, R.1, MS64 NGC. The left-leaning Large 0 in the date is a tip-off for the O-123 obverse, while on the reverse several of the horizontal crossbars and a few of the vertical lines extend past the shield borders. Attractive pumpkin-gold and cobalt-blue border toning suggest this frosty and sharply struck near-Gem spent time in an old-time album or coin board. Just five Large 0 varieties exist, but none are particularly scarce or rare until the high Uncirculated grades. This Choice example is tied at the low end of the Parsley Condition Census for the O-123 variety, a position confirmed by the Autumn, 2016 Stephen Herrman Condition Census for Die Varieties.
