Reeded Edge Half Dollars
1836 50C Reeded Edge, GR-1, R.2, AU55+ NGC. CAC. This is a lovely example of the famous Reeded Edge variety of the 1836 half dollar, the debut of Christian Gobrecht's design work on this denomination. The mintage of the 1836 Reeded Edge half is unknown, although the Guide Book lists a low estimate of 1,200+ coins. This high-end Choice AU piece displays sharp detail and satiny surfaces with glints of luster near the borders. Areas of olive, golden-gray, and lavender-blue toning appear over each side.
