1842 50C Medium Date, Large Letters, Repunched Date, WB-105, FS-301, MS64 PCGS. The date shows repunching north, widely on the 8, with multiple punchings of the 42 visible with a glass. A rare variety in Choice Mint State, this Cherrypickers' Guide variety is clearly the most popular of the Medium Date die pairs -- always in demand for type as well as for the repunched date. Rich, iridescent shades include deep-blue, lavender, and ruby-red hues drape sharply struck surfaces. Mint luster glows beneath the comprehensive toning. Population (all Medium Date varieties): 12 in 64, 4 finer (11/16).
