Seated Half Dollars
1853 50C Arrows and Rays, WB-101, MS64 PCGS. Arrows and rays were added to the Seated Liberty design in 1853, to distinguish new tenor silver coins from their heavier, mass-melted predecessors. The rays reduced die life, and were removed in 1854, ensuring single-year status for the type. This lustrous cream-gray near-Gem is well struck and uncommonly void of marks. A trace of struck-in grease is noted below star 7. Struck from moderately clashed dies.
