Seated Half Dollars
1880 50C Closed Bud, WB-102, MS67 NGC. In 1880, the Mint was too busy striking silver dollars to coin more than a token quantity of half dollars for commerce. From the business mintage of 8,400 pieces, dealers set aside perhaps 200 pieces. The remainder of the production went into circulation, and worn examples are seen less often than their Mint State counterparts. This is a pristine, fully struck, and semiprooflike Superb Gem. The obverse field is orange-gold and lilac-red, the reverse field is pearl-gray, and both borders display ocean-blue shades. Census: 7 in 67, 0 finer (11/16).
