Proof Seated Half Dollars
1873 50C No Arrows PR67 PCGS. CAC. The Mint struck 600 proof Seated half dollars prior to a change in the weight standard that resulted in the addition of arrows on each side of the date on April 1, 1873. All proofs were struck with a Closed 3. As might be expected, specimens are extremely rare at this grade level. PCGS reports five PR67 submissions, including one in MS67+. Additionally, there is a single PR67 Cameo coin at that service. As of (11/16), no specimens have achieved a PR68 assessment from either of the major grading firms, placing this Superb Gem among the finest survivors. Cobalt-blue, violet-gray, and gold meld over the entirety of each side, shrouding seemingly pristine surfaces. Flashy fields beneath the toning provide an added degree of appeal. CAC: 2 in 67, 0 finer (11/16).
