Barber Half Dollars
1896-S 50C MS64 PCGS. CAC. Striking problems and excessive bagmarks plague the typical 1896-S Barber half dollar, accounting for its scarcity in the better grades of Mint State. The current near-Gem fares much better in the above attributes. The design elements are sharply struck save for the usual touch of softness on the upper-right shield corner. Moreover, both sides reveal significantly fewer mentionable marks for the issue, or for that matter, for the designated grade. Lustrous surfaces display just the slightest hint of light gold-tan color. All in all, this coin exhibits above-average eye apeal, appropriately recognized by CAC. Population: 24 in 64 (1 in 64+), 15 finer. CAC: 4 in 64, 6 finer (10/16).
