Barber Half Dollars
1898-S 50C MS65 PCGS. The 1898-S Barber half dollar is an elusive, underrated issue, despite its substantial mintage of 2.3 million pieces. A number of coins were sent to the Philippines after the U.S. acquired the islands in the Spanish-American War. This attractive Gem is sharply detailed in most areas, but the eagle's claw and shield point show a touch of the often-seen softness. The well-preserved, lustrous surfaces are enhanced by shades of lavender-gray and greenish-gold toning. Population: 10 in 65 (1 in 65+), 6 finer (11/16).
