Barber Half Dollars
1905-S 50C MS65 PCGS Secure. Ex: Shireman. The issue's mintage of almost 2.5 million coins perpetuates the idea that the 1905-S is available through MS65 and beyond, but that is far from true. In reality, examples are very rare at the Gem grade level with 12 submissions split evenly between PCGS and NGC. There are six higher grading events at the former service, and a single coin finer at the latter (11/16). Daubs of pale gold patina accent the otherwise brilliant surfaces of this frosty S-mint Gem. The issue's strong strike is on display here, though the right talon is incomplete. Trivial marks on the portrait and headband define the grade.
