Early Dollars
1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Two Leaves, B-9, BB-13, R.4, Fine 12 PCGS. Die State II, heavily clashed. BB-13 is a scarce Head of '94 variety, almost always seen only in lower grades; no Mint State examples are currently known. Moreover, the present example is in a rare late die state, with bold clash marks from the wreath and eagle impressed into the obverse fields all around the portrait. The coin is evenly circulated and displays uniform gunmetal-gray patina. Some detail remains in the eagle's feathers and in Liberty's hair curls. Close study with a loupe finds a faint scattering of tiny specks on each side, not obvious to the unaided eye.
