Early Dollars
1796 $1 Large Date, Small Letters, B-5, BB-65, R.2, VF35 PCGS. Bowers Die State IV. The amount of die rust between E and R in AMERICA suggests an even later die state, although the determining die lump between I and C does not extend beyond C, but rather follows its curve. Liberty's portrait displays Choice definition for the VF grade, and the eagle is reasonably well-defined. Attractive burnt-orange toning joins charcoal accents and fleeting glimpses of mint luster to enliven the silver-gray surfaces. An attractive and minimally abraded early dollar, always in demand for its Large Date logotype.
