Early Dollars
1797 $1 10x6 Stars, Large Letters, B-3, BB-71, R.2, VF20 PCGS. Bowers Die State III. A total of 16 obverse stars are arranged with six stars at right and 10 stars left, the only such arrangement on an early dollar, and a configuration that is unique in the entire dollar series. Always in demand for type, this midgrade example is pleasing with warm-gray toning and traces of tan-gold at the borders. Surface marks are small and muted by wear. A small rim ding outside of star 14 is noted, yet the rims are otherwise full and sharp. Nice definition remains across both sides for the assigned grade.
