Early Dollars
1797 $1 9x7 Stars, Large Letters, B-1, BB-73, R.3, VF35 PCGS. Bowers Die State I. An oblong pellet (die lump) exists between star 9 and the hair to confirm the unlapped state of the obverse die. No sign of die clashing is visible confirming the early die state, and occasional roughness (possibly die rust) in the date area also characterizes the early state of the dies. Dappled shades of bluish-gray toning overlay tan-gray surfaces, which are sharply defined for the Choice VF grade. About 50% of the eagles breast feathers remain visible -- a surprising amount of detail for the assigned grade. There are no adjustment marks on either side.
