1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Close Date, B-27, BB-113, R.2, XF45 PCGS. The die states in the second edition of the Bowers Silver Dollar Encyclopedia are confusing as Die State II calls for an obverse crack, and Die State III requires a perfect obverse die. This example is clearly Die State III, per the description of the reverse die cracks. An attractive example with dappled gold and steel toning, retaining much underlying mint luster.
