Early Dollars
1800 $1 B-2, BB-182, R.5, AU50 PCGS. Bowers Die State II, the usual die state with a crack through the first A in AMERICA. Perhaps 40 to 50 examples of this variety are known in all grades, and this piece ranks high in the Condition Census. Both sides exhibit satiny light gray surfaces with pastel reddish-gold toning on the devices. A small mint clip is noted at 10 o'clock. The list of notable specimens in the second edition of the Bowers Silver Dollar Encyclopedia lists just two pieces in higher grades.
