1800 $1 Dotted Date, B-14, BB-194, R.3, VF35 PCGS. CAC. Bowers Die State IV. The die defect that characterizes BB-194 resembles a series of dots (thus the "Dotted Date" moniker) yet in reality the dots are the result of minute die cracks with miniature retained, dotlike cuds. In the late die state, numerous larger die cracks exist both on the obverse and reverse. Gunmetal-gray toning covers much of the coin, with silver-gray patina at the high points where wear is apparent. Even with the advanced state of the dies, the strike is sharp and the die dots are especially bold on this Choice VF example. Population: 11 in 35, 46 finer. CAC: 5 in 35, 6 finer (11/16).
