Early Dollars
1801 $1 B-2, BB-212, R.3, VF30 PCGS. CAC. Bowers Die State III. Struck from a late state of the dies, probably in 1802 or later. Only 54,454 silver dollars dated 1801 were struck, but most of those were distributed in later years. This example is richly toned in walnut-brown shades with blue overtones. Glimpses of orange-gold toning surround some of the raised devices. Sharp definition on most of the motifs remains, although the E in LIBERTY is weak.
