Early Dollars
1802 $1 Narrow Date, B-6, BB-241, R.1, AU58 NGC. Die State III, as usual, with die lapping evident in the hair curls. BB-241 exists in moderate numbers in AU and lower Mint State grades, but the rarity of most other die pairings in this grade range puts increased demand on BB-241 by type collectors seeking a single high-end Draped Bust dollar. This example is a firmly graded, original representative. Both sides exhibit deep gunmetal-gray toning, but the design elements display seemingly untouched high points -- the overall sharpness is superb for an AU coin. Border dentils are complete on each side and the design elements are boldly brought up. There are no distracting adjustment marks and the surfaces are pleasantly smooth.
