Seated Dollars
1870-CC $1 AU50 NGC. OC-9. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. The monumental Comstock Lode was discovered in the late 1850s, and news reached the public in 1859. Still recognized as Nevada Territory, Congress authorized the Carson City Mint in 1863. Statehood came near the end of the following year, and the Mint facility finally struck their first coins, silver dollars, in February 1870. The present coin has pleasing pewter and light gray surfaces with blue peripheral toning on the obverse. The date is centered vertically. Traces of luster remain visible on this attractive and historic coin. Census: 14 in 50, 82 finer (11/16).
