Seated Dollars
1872-S $1 MS61 NGC. The 1872-S Seated dollar is the last available S-mint issue in the series (no examples of the 1873-S are known to survive). As such, the 1872-S offers a special cachet beyond what the low mintage of 9,000 coins would indicate. Most examples were either melted or circulated extensively. This MS61 dollar is softly lustrous with semiprooflike reflectivity beneath golden-brown and powder-blue patina. Marks are minor overall, though we note a hair-thin line on the left (facing) wing. Census: 2 in 61, 10 finer (11/16).
