Trade Dollars
1873-CC T$1 MS62 PCGS. The mintage of 124,500 pieces seems adequate for the 1873-CC Trade dollar, maybe a bit on the low side. But collectors are well aware how difficult this issue is in mint condition. The reason undoubtedly lies in how the coins were distributed. The first 2,580 dollars were released to local depositors on July 23; then most of the remaining production run was exported to China for their intended purpose as Trade dollars. This is an attractive example with bright mint luster and just the slightest gray patina over each side. The strike is generally strong, but not complete in all areas. There are several abrasions located above the eagle's head, but otherwise the surfaces show only minor marks. Population: 20 in 62, 17 finer (11/16).
