Trade Dollars
1876 T$1 Type One Obverse, Type One Reverse, MS64+ PCGS. CAC. A study of our archives by Mark Borckardt, Heritage Senior Numismatist, reveals the Type One Obverse paired with the Type One Reverse on the 1876 issue occurs about half as often as the Type One obverse matched with the Type Two reverse. The current coin has no period after FINE. In lesser grades, the 1876 Trade dollar is one of the more easily obtainable issues, but it quickly becomes rare at the Gem grade level. This MS64+ example displays complementary hues of blue, turquoise, and amber beneath soft champagne toning overall, with semiprooflike underlying fields. A lustrous, sharply struck type representative. Population: 6 in 64+, 32 finer. CAC: 14 in 64, 8 finer (11/16).
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2014), lot 4601.
