Proof Trade Dollars
1873 T$1 PR64 Cameo PCGS. CAC. This gold-toned, near-Gem Cameo proof displays the Patched Letters Reverse, unique to the first-year Trade dollar proofs. The tops of the E in STATES and the F in OF are patched. Two thin, parallel die scratches beneath the branch stem curve through the lowest arrow, through 00 of 900, terminating between A and R of DOLLAR. A prominent die scratch on the obverse extends from the bottom-left cotton bale through the gown, disappearing into the waves above Liberty's ankle. Weakness at the right (facing) talon is characteristic of the reverse die, although the balance of this contrasted, glassy-mirrored proof is sharp. Population: 30 in 64, 7 finer. CAC: 3 in 64, 2 finer (11/16).
